The exciting 11-inning matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a total over 50 million viewers across the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB announced this represents the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday memorable contest averaged over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and Game 3 landed in 13th position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game recorded over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – averaged over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete American average was 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million watchers, an 8% rise compared to the previous year and the network’s strongest playoff performance since the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
