The Substance

Coralie Fargeat's daring commentary examines the demanding standards for feminine aesthetics along with the dreaded aspects of growing older. Demi Moore presents a masterful acting turn playing Elisabeth, a 50-year-old celebrity reduced to starring in an aerobics show on TV. This Supernatural Story

Soderbergh challenges his film-making abilities through this nifty ghostly tale shot entirely from the viewpoint of the phantom. After a clan including mother Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe settles into their new suburban house, the filming device – as the unseen entity – follows them around. The teen shows signs of conscious of the ghostly being, and the entity appears defensive toward her. Yet what is the reason? The premise is enjoyable that avoids overstaying, featuring a surprise that could catch you off guard. Saturday 11 October, afternoon and evening times, Sky Cinema

Recruited by government spies to spy on the suspected cartel boss, Cage's “nouveau shamanic acting ability” proves useful. This Saturday, 9pm, the Channel 4 network

The Black Phone

Scott Derrickson's contained scarefest holds up well even without a sequel. Set in 1970s Colorado, several disappearances has left the youth on edge. When Finney is kidnapped by the kidnapper and locked up in a dungeon, he anticipates a fatal end. However, the disconnected phone in the room repeatedly calls, with spooky callers offering help, while the prophetic visions of Gwen, his sister could save him. A genuinely scary movie. Saturday 11 October, nighttime, Film4

The Eyes of Tammy Faye

In the conflict between faith and wealth, the victory is clear for greed in Showalter's brilliantly over-the-top biopic of the disgraced religious broadcaster and her criminal husband. The actor acts as the greedy Jim, who declares at the beginning, “God does not want us to be poor,”. The couple set about profiting from the people's religious faith. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, overdone appearance and insincerity, however Chastain achieves to depict the character in a likable light. October 14th, early morning, the Film4 channel
