The artist has handed over the full amount of his £25,000 honor prize money to the MVT, which operates to preserve the UK's grassroots music venues.

The star was given the award on October 16 as his third album his work was chosen as the best record of the last 12 months.

He has decided to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function local spots played in his early career.

"I wouldn't be doing my current career if it wasn't for all the gigs I played around the area, and beyond, when I was just getting going," stated the artist. "These spaces are renowned, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these locations have shut down – roughly one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, major artists like the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its initiatives to support the industry, by including a small levy to their admission fees, which supports smaller concert halls.

He also took part, collecting more than £100,000 on his live tour to support 38 small stages across Britain.

These funds assisted spaces that were confronting imminent closure due to issues stemming from floods, blazes and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and noise complaints.

Additional spaces received funding support in upgrading infrastructure and gear that helped performers and audiences.

"The notion that funds from performances in large arenas supports the local stages, where it begins for performers like me, is just sensible," Fender has stated.

In the past week, the MVT announced it had saved several local spots in the South East, by bringing them into public stewardship.

The first in Southampton and the other in Bristol were acquired under the community ownership program, which is funded by the arts council and supporters who purchase "ownership units" in the properties.
